While most dogs do this naturally, some dog breeds are especially inclined towards this task. Guarding duty varies in the level of protection provided by dogs, such as being watchdogs or alarm dogs, guard dogs, and attack dogs.

Watchdogs or alarm dogs simply warn their owners by barking vigorously when anything out of the ordinary occurs, such as strangers who are passing by too close to the vicinity of the owners’ homes. Guard dogs go one step further by having the ability to restrain intruders and attacking upon the instructions of their owners. Westie Dog

West Highland Terriers or Westies ( as they are more beeter known) are furry coated dogs, with dots for coal black eyes and button noses.

Why are they sought after by many dog lovers? These friendly creatures are well-behaved ( well most of the time, as we all have our moments), are loyal and affectionate dogs, who may be pocket sized (average a 10-11 inches tall), but are highly intelligent animals.

Brush their white coats two to three times a week, to keep it shiny and clean. If you do intend to enter them for competition, make sure your pet is regularly trimmed, plucked and stripped of his or her coat. Read the rest of this entry »
